Headstone marked W M at Creed Cemetery
Redwater, Tx

By Glenn E. Thrapp

We built our home in 1976 on some land that my, Grandfather Thrapp, bought in 1916. During the construction I mentioned this little Cemetery in the woods, we went over there and discovered some of the names, on the headstones, were from local families that I knew. Covered with leaves was a 10 to 12 inch rock that someone had scratched "WM" on. This rock really got my interest, who had tried so hard to leave a record of this loved one. Got to thinking about the name Thrapp. Years later I was interviewing Catherine Elliott about my brother-in-law's family, who descended from the White lineage.  She said that when she was a little girl she would go with her parents to Creed Cemetery, and they would spend all day cleaning up the grounds. She said that there was a round top rock with the initials WM scratched on it, that belonged to her Great Grandfather, William White.  The hair stood up on the back of my neck. Within 2 years Catherine had died of cancer. And that is my story.
